UDigiSh researchers have contributed to the recently inaugurated exhibition “Cyprus Insula: History-Memory-Reality”, which will run from 4 July 2024 – 30 June 2025 at the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation. This exhibition marks the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, and was inaugurated on Wednesday, July 3rd by the President of the Republic, Dr Nikos Christodoulides. The exhibition captures life in Cyprus from antiquity to the present day, conveying the unwavering message of the island’s insularity in an interactive way. Curated by Dr. Yiannis Toumazis and Demetra Ignatiou, the exhibition examines the historically unified cultural character of Cyprus, which combines elements from the island’s rich, complex and multifaceted historical past.
UDigiSH created an interactive booth as part of its research on the inaccessible modern architecture heritage of the Nicosia Airport. This installation is part of the WG’s multidisciplinary and holistic effort to preserve the modern architectural heritage of the Nicosia International Airport. It features a virtual environment accessible through a point-and-click interface that allows the visitors to explore a digital reconstruction of the airport set in the late 1960s. Through spatially-distributed narratives, this playful interface enables visitors to interact with personas of the airport and view archival material from the prime years of its operation. Visitors are warmly invited to contribute their stories, memories, and content (photos, etc.) to help the periodical enrichment of this virtual environment, so that we can create a more comprehensive, inclusive and diverse understanding of life at the airport at the time.
